Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is a vital team member within the organization’s fiscal department. This position reports to the CFO and is primarily responsible for accounting work that includes invoicing, collecting, payment processing and related financial reporting. Other responsibilities include general ledger and sub accounts analysis, journal entries for monthly closing as well as variance analysis and other special projects as assigned by the Senior Staff Accountant, Associate Controller and/or CFO. This position requires strong accounting and computer skills, attention to detail, strong communication skills, flexibility to adapt, and the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks. In addition to essential duties and responsibilities outlined below, the Accounts Payable Manager is expected to perform any new or modified functions as delegated by his/her immediate supervisor, the CFO, or the Associate Controller. The AP Manager is charged with actively supporting a positive and inclusive environment, as well as promoting the vision for quality early childhood services that anchors the organization.

SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Senior Staff Accountant is a vital team member within the organization’s fiscal department.  This position reports to the CFO and is primarily responsible for accounting work that includes invoicing, collecting, payment processing and related financial reporting. Other responsibilities include general ledger and sub accounts analysis, journal entries for monthly closing as well as variance analysis and other special projects as assigned by the Associate Controller and/or CFO. This position requires strong accounting and computer skills, attention to detail, strong communication skills, flexibility to adapt, and the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the process of applying for grants/contract proposals.
  • Coordinate the follow-through on deadlines and financial reporting requirements over the life of each grant or contract.
  • Monitor and distribute expenditures in accordance with approved grant agreements.
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintain general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
  • Summarize financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
  • Maintain Accounts Receivable balance and ensure all items are accounted for and accounts are current.
  • Perform special and specific financial and statistical analysis as requested.
  • Complete external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors.
  • Avoid legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
  • Secure financial information by completing database backups.
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Submit a monitoring report to the CFO at least once every 6 weeks, outlining major updates or compliance concerns within the fiscal department

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Displays organization and thoroughness in all aspects of work
  • Robust attention to detail
  • An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills, including a proven ability to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels of financial literacy
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies
  • Ability to balance competing priorities
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate daily tasks
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • 2+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • CPA required
  • Experience with financial statement preparation for all types of legal entities
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Experience in preparing and review of tax filings
